While Jack was watching whale videos tonight, I took advantage of the opportunity to get some one on one time with Ruby.  She suggested that we have a tea party; so we invited a couple of friends and it was great.  Near the end of the party, she offered to tell a story:

Jack is Ready to Move Again September 15, 2016

We’ve only been in Everett for four months, and Jack already wants to move.  He approached me in the kitchen yesterday with a question:

JACK:  Daddy, can we move to Canada?

ME:  Probably not.  Why do you want to move to Canada?

JACK:  Because Hillary Clinton lives there and we want her to be president.

ME:  I don’t want her to be president!

JACK:  I do.

ME:  And she doesn’t live in Canada.

JACK:  But you said she’s a canadate.

ME:  <explains difference between “candidate” and “Canadian”>

 

Still Reflecting on This July 14, 2015

Today a piece of our deck’s railing fell off when I bumped it with a broom.  As I tried to put it back in place, Jack observed: “God made everything.  But he didn’t make them very well.”

 

Back from The Glen July 8, 2015

On Sunday we all came back from a great 4-day trip to The Glen at Maple Falls.  There was a lot of swimming, a lot of time spent hanging out with family, and a lot of time dicking around in the forest.  By the last day, Jack had become a hobbit:

Many months ago, we got a bike for Jack; but in our sidewalk-less neighborhood he hasn’t had much of a chance to ride it.  That all changed at The Glen, with Jack pedaling so fast I had to run to keep up with him.  Our goal for Jack is to start taking him and his bike to the Green River Trail and get those training wheels off by the end of summer.

While Jack’s hairy feet pedaled furiously, Ruby was close behind on her scooter (or someone else’s scooter that we’re borrowing–I can’t keep up), swinging her left leg  like a mighty pendulum of meat to power herself down the road.  They both had a great time.  We all had a great time.  Thanks for letting us stay there, Mom and Dad.

Enduring Insults May 22, 2015

Sometimes the kids do things to me that would clearly be considered an insult if done by an adult.  I was asking Ruby, nicely, to put on her clothes.  (She’d been running around naked for no apparent reason for an hour.  No harm done, but I want to do what I can to kill that habit before it reaches her college years.  I knew girls like that.)  Instead of going to get her clothes, she bent over and spread her butt at me like Pete Burns.  I’da killed a man for that.
